A Father's Day Reminder

In honor of Father’s Day, I’m sharing some timeless advice from the one and only Jock Gauthier, my dad.

He’s steady, solid, wise, and optimistic. His words (and the way he lives them) have had a huge impact on how I live my life, and how I coach.

These five tips, told to me many times over, have shaped how I lead, plan, and support my clients.

“Quit cutting the lawn with a pair of scissors.”

Translation: Stop making things unnecessarily hard.

“I think maybe you should get some sleep and think about it tomorrow.”

Translation: You’re too tired to make a decision — and this problem will probably feel smaller in the morning.

“Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing.”

Translation: Stop spinning your wheels trying to solve it. Sometimes, the wisest move is to just let it be.

“You can do anything you want if you put your mind to it. Write down your goal and just start moving in that direction.”

Translation: I believe in you. Now it’s your turn — believe in yourself and get going.

“Schedule your vacation first.”

Translation: When planning your year (and you should definitely plan the whole year), prioritize your time away. Rest and family time won’t happen unless you make space for it.

I hope one of these speaks to you today.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad. You are the very best. 💛

PONDER THIS

Ponder this, or better yet, journal your answers:

  1. What would happen if you scheduled an appointment with yourself to do something fun, like read a book on the front porch, and treated that time like you would a work appointment?

  2. What would happen if your to do list only consisted of the highest priority things that you know you could accomplish this week. How would you feel?

  3. Where could you “do nothing” - just simply cross an item off your list and let it go?

This week, I challenge you to try just one of the above and see how it impacts your week.

JUST FOR FUN

🎉 Summer Nostalgia Challenge 🎉

What’s one thing you loved doing in the summer as a kid? Popsicles on the porch? Sprinklers? Bare feet on hot pavement? Your challenge: re-create a kid-style joy moment this week—no productivity required.

TINY PLEASURES

I love a summer salad! I don’t want to brag, but... I make one of the best salad dressings in town. Every time I make this, someone asks for the recipe. My brother says he could drink it straight, so that’s something.

It’s especially good on a summer salad with berries (like the one pictured above). Add chicken, strawberries, avocado — whatever makes it feel like sunshine in a bowl.

The Secret Best Dressing:

  • ⅔ cup mayonnaise
⅔ cup milk, cream, or almond milk

  •  1–2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

  •  Poppy seeds (to taste)

  • 3 tablespoons strawberry jam (or sub real strawberries + a pinch of sugar)

Mix everything together and taste as you go.

Too thick? Add a splash of milk.

Too thin? More mayo.

Too tart? A little sugar.

I hope you love it!
