Get Some Rest.

I come from what could be called a “sleep positive” family. If I come to my mom with a problem, even today, she will probably tell me the first thing I need to do is get a good night’s sleep. When presenting the same problem to my dad, he will likely say “Well, the first thing you could consider is doing nothing”.

Growing up, we had a very scheduled, routine bed time and sleep was always encouraged. In the summer, we had a strict rule in the Gauthier household that no one should call or ring the doorbell before 10 am. All of the neighbor kids knew it. We slept in.

My parents both worked really hard, and they aren’t lazy. They just believe in the value of rest and sleep.

This has of course affected how I parent my own kids, and I think they’ll grow up saying they came from a “sleep positive” family too.

How about you? What were your family’s views on sleep and how has that affected your adult life and parenting?

HOT OFF THE PRESS

“The way you speak to yourself matters.”

What if it’s not your circumstances that have you feeling miserable every day? What if it’s the way that you’re talking to yourself? That’s the idea behind the book Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It by Kamal Ravikant.

The way you speak to yourself shapes your confidence, your decisions, your resilience, and even your relationships.

You know you should be kinder to yourself, but when your brain has spent years repeating criticism, doubt, and pressure, it doesn’t magically switch overnight. The good news, though, is that self-love is a practice, not a feeling, which means that it’s something that you can get better at. And since it’s at the core of everything you do - why not try to get better at it?

“I had built a life that looked successful but didn’t actually feel good to live in.”

Burnout can show up in sneaky ways - irritability, clumsiness, depending a little too much on your nightly Netflix + wine.

Burnout doesn’t always look like a breakdown. It can hide behind small, normalized coping mechanisms you don’t question anymore.

And if you don’t catch it early, it slowly disconnects you from how you actually want to feel and show up.

Most women don’t realize what’s happening until they’re deep in it, which is why I invited Wendy Meadows, a burnout expert, to the podcast. If you’re feeling constantly drained, stuck in bad habits, and wondering why life feels harder than it should, this episode will help you understand why.
