Your Body Knows You’re Overwhelmed Before You Do

Every feeling we have shows up in our body somewhere. Overwhelm might feel like a spinning in your head. Joy might feel like a lightness in your chest. Worry could feel like a pulling in your lower back.

Tuning into how your body feels is a quick way to take stock of your feelings so that you can process them and move on with your day.

Here's how: Take about one minute to scan your body mentally, starting with the top of your head and ending with your toes. Then ask yourself, “What did I notice?”

I just did a body scan myself and noticed that my eyes felt heavy and tried and that my shoulders felt a little heavy with worry, but other than that everything was clear (well, except my toe which I physically hurt doing lunges ).

Next, ask yourself, “What does this need right now?”

My answer was that I could take a break after I finish writing this and rest for a bit, and I could text the person I was worrying about. Then I took a deep breath and let both go.

This little life hack is a quick and simple way to reset your whole system. Give it a try!

HOT OFF THE PRESS

“The thoughts that you're trying to avoid never go away. They just wait.”

Busyness can be one of the most socially rewarded forms of buffering.

Because it looks productive.

It feels responsible.

And no one questions it.

But underneath it, there’s often something we don’t want to sit with—uncertainty, guilt, disappointment, or just the noise of our own thoughts. And avoidance only works for so long.

Many women think they’re just “driven” or “busy because life is full” but over time, that constant motion starts to feel exhausting… and a little empty.

This episode exists to help you recognize when busy stops being helpful (and what to do about it).

“Rest and recovery are just a biological requirement. We have to rest.”

Most high-achieving women treat rest like a reward instead of a requirement and we wait until burnout forces us to stop instead of giving ourselves small moments of recovery before we hit the wall.

The truth is, your body was never designed to stay in “go mode” 24/7. You can’t think clearly, make good decisions, or feel calm when your body never feels safe enough to slow down. Rest isn’t lazy. It’s necessary.

My guest, Michelle Bloyd-Fink, makes slowing down feel realistic instead of impossible and has simple, practical tips that can help you calm the chaos without adding more pressure to your life.
